DS2 - x36 - Anime Human Chess Match: Riza Hawkeye vs Liquid Snake

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

The third (and final) of several moves (chess moves) that pit characters from Full Metal Alchemist against a couple of the more sociopathic members of the Metal Gear Solid crew. This one features a...well, you just have to see it - between Riza Hawkeye (character from Full Metal Alchemist) and Liquid Snake (character from Metal Gear Solid).

This fight puts a whole new spin on the old adage that you should never bring a knife to a gun fight. It also shows, once again, that this Liquid Snake fellow has some serious impulse control issues.

DS2 - x35 - Anime Human Chess Match: Allen Schezar vs Vicious

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

This fight puts Allen Schezar (character from The Vision of Escaflowne) back on the board, this time he is up against that psycho Vicious (character from Cowboy Bebop).

This is a excellent fight; great characterization, really good timing, technique, and rhythm, a cool ending - even sparks flying off their blades (can't beat that!).

DS2 - x34 - Anime Human Chess Match: Cassandra and Sophitia vs Pirotess

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

Just when you think the Chess Match has used just about every weapon possible...they pull out the whip!

This fight puts Grecian sisters Cassandra and Sophitia (characters from Soulcalibur) on the board against Pirotess (character from Record of Lodoss War).

These ladies show an exceptional skill (and chutzpah) on both sides of the whip. Exceptional work.

DS2 - x33 - Anime Human Chess Match: Riza Hawkeye vs Sniper Wolf

[Cross-posted from Dramatic STEEL to DS2, since these folks embody what DS2 is all about.]

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

The second of several moves (chess moves) that pit characters from Full Metal Alchemist against a couple of the more sociopathic members of the Metal Gear Solid crew. This second one features a gun battle / knife fight / H-T-H smack down between Riza Hawkeye (character from Full Metal Alchemist) and Sniper Wolf (character from Metal Gear Solid).

I'll tell you, these folks just kept pulling out all the stops with these fights; I was completely surprised when the rounds stated flying.

DS2 - x32 - Anime Human Chess Match: Maes Hughes vs Liquid Snake

[Cross-posted from Dramatic STEEL to DS2, since these folks embody what DS2 is all about.]

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

The first of several moves (chess moves) that pit characters from Full Metal Alchemist against a couple of the more sociopathic members of the Metal Gear Solid crew. This first one is a fast and flashy knife fight between Maes Hughes (character from Full Metal Alchemist) and Liquid Snake (character from Metal Gear Solid).

This fight is a good example of just how bad some of these bad guys can be.

DS2 - x31 - Anime Human Chess Match: Anderson vs Envy

[Cross-posted from Dramatic STEEL to DS2, since these folks embody what DS2 is all about.]

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

An unforgettable battle between Alexander Anderson (character from Hellsing) and Envy (character from Full Metal Alchemist).

This exceptional fight spotlights the gymnastic ability of Envy (as well as his/her other, more arcane, attributes) alongside the swordsmanship and hardcore piety of Anderson. Be prepared for twice the superlative fight design in this one.

Note: This was the Chess Match's halftime fight and, as such, was a bit longer than most of the others. We had to compress it a little more than usual to meet the size limits of most of the web's video hosts. We'll be posting a shorter, "just the action" version at the normal quality a little later.

DS2 - x29 - Anime Human Chess No. 7 - Ichigo

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

A dramatic and emotional encounter between Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki (characters from Bleach).

This sequence is rhythmic and fluid, with a surprising conclusion.

DS2 - x28 - Brief Thoughts on "Stock Art"

Episode 28 of the 30-day challenge.

One of the things I enjoy doing with my 'creative' time is collaborating with other artists to produce images that they can then use to help realize their own artistic vision.

I have no idea what this activity should be called...

(If you have a good name for it, please let me know.)

Special thanks to the multi-talented Mr. Tim Collier for the use of one of his fine images.

DS2 - x27 - Anime Human Chess No. 6 - Kenshiro v Akuma

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

This is a very physical, very dynamic fight between Kenshiro (character from Fist of the North Star) and Akuma (character from Street Fighter).

You can tell these cats have a lot of training in their backgrounds and they use it to excellent effect in this fight.

DS2 - x25 - Anime Human Chess No. 5 - Mario!

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

This fight is an epic face-off between Mario and Luigi against Wario and Waluigi (characters from The Mario series of video games).

What can one say; these guys brought their characters to life, and that is an amazing feat. Very physical and very funny; great stuff.

DS2 - x23 - Anime Human Chess No. 4

Episode 23 (of 30)

In keeping with the philosophy that these are too good to mess with by adding the DS2 intro into the action, we're just going to go with the good stuff.

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

This fight puts Allen Schezar (character from The Vision of Escaflowne) on the other side of Vega's (character from Street Fighter) claw.

As odd as it may sound, one thing that people tend to forget when they see this show - because it is so engaging - is that it is live; so no cuts (editing cuts, that is), no multiple takes, and all the effects have to be done in real time. This fight shows off that last point very well. (You'll know it when you see it).

Episode 22 of the 30-day challenge.

It's Meta Monday and today we go behind the scenes and into my pockets for a look at all the stuff that I tend to have on my person.

If you've ever had the inclination to do a video response to an episode of DS2, this would be a good.

DS2 - x21 - Human Chess No. 3 B.E.V.

Episode 21 of the 30-day challenge.

There was just something about this particular POV of this particular fight that I really liked; thought you might like to see it all from this angle as well. The blue spot light washes out certain parts of the board from this vantage, but it's not too bad. Great stuff.

==========================

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match. This was the first fight of the show and it made for a great opening move.

This fight pits Saber (character from Fate/Stay Night) against Vergil (character from Devil May Cry).

DS2 - x20 - Anime Human Chess No. 3

Episode 20 (of 30)

In keeping with the philosophy that these are too good to mess with by adding the DS2 intro into the action, we're just going to go with the good stuff.

From METROCON 2008's Anime Human Chess Match.

This fight pits Saber (character from Fate/Stay Night) against Vergil (character from Devil May Cry).

This fight shows some beautiful work wielding an extremely long katana; very difficult when used against a fairly short broadsword - but the design takes full advantage of the contrast and the actors make it look great. Also some very convincing (i.e. very close) H-T-H.
